Setting Goals Worksheet

You can only improve your business if you have a clear idea of where you want it to go.

This usually means setting goals.

Sure, you can achieve success without goals, but that’s kind of like stumbling upon some buried treasure without a map. You’ll have much more chance of finding that treasure if you know where you’re going!

You should set both short-term and long-term goals, and make sure that every goal you choose is “SMART”.

That means it’s specific, it’s measurable, it’s actually attainable, realistic and it has a time limit.

I am a PRO at planning. I Plan to Plan! Does that make sense?

The only problem with planning too much, is I am not DOING enough! I need to take more ACTION!

Without ACTION you see no RESULTS! Right?

According to this article by Inc., more than 80 percent of the 300 small business owners surveyed in the recent 4th Annual Staples National Small Business Survey said that they don’t keep track of their business goals, and 77 percent have yet to achieve their vision for their company.

Yep…that would be me! I confess!

I think my main problem is that I have so many ideas and plans that I get overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. So I keep re-thinking my goals and plans.

So my New Year’s resolution for 2016 was to actually WORK my goals and plan. I am not allowing myself to change plans unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary.

Part of the problem was that I love learning. Every new course or method of making money piques my interest and I want to learn about it. BUT if I spend all my time learning, I am not actually implementing what I have learned. I wrote more about this problem in this post here.

So one of my goals has been to allocate my time to 10% learning and 90% doing. It is working out very well so far. I save Sunday’s as my “learning” day. So as I rest, I listen to webinars or training courses or read the latest ebooks related to my business.  I take notes on the items I want to try and I put it at the bottom of my to do list.

When Monday morning rolls around, I just start at the top of my to do list and work my way down just “doing the next thing”.

It is amazing how much I have accomplished restructuring my time in this manner.
