Email marketing is one of the best ways to stay in contact with your customers and potential customers. You can share your expertise and new products at the push of a button with all of your customers and friends and deliver your information directly into their inbox.

I’m Starving For an Essential Oil Education

I bought an essential oil starter kit from a good friend when she started selling Young Living Oils a few years ago. I still have some of those oils. I have also added oils from other friends that sell DoTerra Oils. I really don’t have a preference from what company I purchase from. That is not what this blog post is about.

I never intended on selling them, but was very interested in learning what I could use them for. I have the guide book she gave me and occasionally look up symptoms or issues I might be dealing with to determine if I have the right oil to use. I also have to look up how to apply the oil and if I have to dilute it or not.

To be honest, I get overwhelmed with all the information and don’t fully use the essential oils I have on hand very often. I know there are multiple ways to use them and that they work! But if you are like me, fairly new to the essential oil world, I need to be taught in bite-size chunks how I can use them properly and effectively.

I would absolutely LOVE it if my essential oil friends would offer an email course or weekly tips to help educate me on all the different ways to use the oils I have.

So my goal in this blog post is to educate my essential oil friends and readers how to scale and grow their business using email marketing. That is my passion to help businesses grow! So let’s get started!

Identify Your Goals for Your Email Marketing Strategy

Let’s be honest here. The reason most people start their own businesses is to make money and help people (I hope).

You can help people in numerous ways by educating them in your email messages about the uses and healing applications of essential oils. You could highlight one particular oil each week and give your readers all of the information they would ever need to know about that oil.

For example, you could list the top ten uses of Peppermint Essential Oil. You could give testimonials of people that have used it for various reasons and how it has helped them. Then you would teach your readers the best way to apply the oil whether it be on the feet, wrists, or other parts of the body.

The second goal of your email marketing should be to promote your products and events. In the example above for the peppermint oil, you could give a link to your website or information on how the reader can contact you to place an order or ask additional questions.

If you are offering a seminar, class, or webinar, you can promote the event to your email readers.

You can use your email marketing to point your readers back to a specific product that you are an affiliate for such as products on Amazon like this one for storing essential oils.

As you can see, email marketing can be very beneficial to your readers and customers as well as a way to increase your monthly sales.

Establish an Email Content Schedule

Your content schedule is one that you can follow through on by writing about certain topics each week or month. There are a number of different ways you can decide what to write about.

You could have a set subject for each day of the week such as a particular Essential oil highlighted on Mondays, a sale or promotion on Tuesdays, highlight a part of the process of how oils are extracted from the plants on Wednesdays, other essential oil accessories highlighted on Thursdays and maybe Friday could be a Q&A day where you answer commonly asked questions.

You get the idea.

Your content schedule can be a simple excel spreadsheet or a printed calendar.

The schedule should also include the set time that you plan on sending out your emails. Think about when you are most likely to read and check your email inbox each day. Is it in the morning or evening? You want to determine what time your audience is mostly likely to see your email sitting in their inbox and open it. Studies have shown that the majority of people check their email between 8-10 am Eastern Time.

You should also always have a brainstorming list of topics that you want to write about and keep it on your content schedule for future months. It never fails, the best ideas hit you when your driving down the road or in the shower! Keep a pen and paper handy or record a voice memo on your smartphone.

Create Catchy Titles and Gain New Subscribers

You know who your target audience is, so create great content to gain new subscribers. If you have a website, you can create a free download or report to give away for new subscribers. You can have a special offer or promotion on your essential oils or accessories for new subscribers.

If you don’t have your own website, you can write guest blog posts on related Essential Oil blogs and put a link to subscribe to your newsletter in your byline. You can also promote your email newsletter on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media.

Facebook ads have become a great targeted way to build a list of potential customers. Everything I ever needed to know about running Facebook ads profitably and in the proper way was taught by Ron Douglas in his Five Dollar Posts course. He walks you step by step on exactly how to setup a Facebook ad that will target whatever demographic you choose for you advertisement to be shown to. If you want your ad to be seen by women only and ages 40 and up, then he shows you how to do that. This minimizes the cost of your ads as well as making sure your products are being seen by the audience you desire.

Your email messages also need to have attention grabbing headlines in order for your readers to open them. You know how cluttered our inboxes can get. You are competing with all the other emails in your subscriber’s inbox, so you need to make their head pop up and take notice when your email comes through.

Make sure to avoid using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS because that tends to be too overpowering and obtrusive. Also, avoid using words such as “Free” which will land your email directly into their spam folder. Replace the word “Free” with “No cost” or “On the House”. You get the idea!

Perform a Quality Control Audit of Your Email Newsletter

There is nothing more embarassing than sending out an email with typos and broken links that lead to neverland!

Test each email before you send it to your subscribers. Make sure to test and click on all of your links to other outside webpages and make sure they take your reader where you want them to go. Make sure your email SPAM score is low and won’t end up in the junk folder. Aweber will rate each of your emails and let you know what the SPAM score is.

Make sure you test out what your email looks like on desktop and mobile devices. Make any changes you need to make sure the readability factor is high and professional in appearance.

Read over your email content as a whole and make sure there are not any missing words and that the content is engaging and has a clear call to action in the message. The call to action is very important. Be clear on what the reader’s next step should be. Do you want them to click a link to buy a product? Or sign up for a free course? Be clear and spell it out for them.
